Sailing Instructions 2023
as published for the 13th Catamarans Cup

 

1. RULES

The Event will be governed by the rules as defined in NOR 1.

2. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
Notices to competitors will be posted online to all skippers.

3. CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted before 09.15 on the day it will take effect, except for any change to the schedule will be posted by 21.00 on the day before it will take effect.

5. CLASS FLAG
The boats will be divided in Three (3) CLASSES A, B, C.
The Class Flag for each class will be as followed
Class A : BLUE flag
Class B : YELLOW flag
Class C : GREEN flag

The boats are obliged to display their Class flag on the backstay during the entire Event duration.

6. THE COURSES
The diagrams in the Route Map show the courses including the order in which marks are to be passed and the side on which each mark is to be left.
The route may be modified subject to the weather conditions. The new courses will be announced during the daily Skippers briefing.

7. MARKS
All marks will be inflatable cylindrical RED buoys with the Catamarans Cup logo.

8. AREAS THAT ARE OBSTRUCTIONS
    Tselevinia Islands - Petrokaravo isl. - Ag. Aimilianos cape

9. THE START
9.1 The starting line will be between a staff displaying a yellow flag with letters RC on the starting R.C. boat and an inflatable cylindrical RED buoy with the Catamarans Cup logo.
A boat starting later than 20 minutes after her starting signal will be scored Did Not Start without a hearing. The Race Committee, at its discretion, may extend the 20 minutes time limit to start in case of absence of wind.
9.2 When the weather conditions are not favorable or there is a technical problem, the Race Committee boats may hold position by using engines.
9.3 All participating boats will follow the Race Committee boat displaying letter “L” to the starting area
9.4 The starts will be given as follows :
5 minutes before the start time : Warning Signal (white flag with the Catamarans Cup logo) and 1 sound signal
4 minutes before the start time : Engines off (1 long sound signal)
Start : (Lowering of the Warning signal) and 1 sound signal
Premature Start : RED flag and 1 sound signal, until the boat returns behind the starting line and starts again.
9.5 All the signals will be announced by VHF, channel 71. The broadcasting of the signals will be for informative purposes only. Omissions or mistakes throughout the broadcasting of the signals by the VHF will not be ground for request for redress.

10. SCORING GATES
10.1 The scoring gates will be between a staff displaying a blue flag and an inflatable cylindrical RED buoy with the Catamarans Cup logo as shown in the Route Map.
10.2 The Race Committee reserves the right to modify or to remove scoring gates in each leg after previous written notice before the start of the leg.

11. THE FINISH
11.1 1st Leg : Alimos - Poros
The finishing line will be between the Light DANA at the entrance of Poros channel to port and an inflatable cylindrical RED buoy with the Catamarans Cup logo to starboard

11.2 2nd Leg : Poros - Porto Heli
The finishing line will be between the green light, at the entrance of Porto Heli bay, to starboard and an inflatable cylindrical RED buoy with the Catamarans Cup logo to port

11.3 3rd Leg : Porto Heli - Paralio Astros
The finishing line will be between the green light, at the entrance of Paralio Astros marina, to port and an inflatable cylindrical RED buoy with the Catamarans Cup logo to starboard

11.4 4th Leg : Paralio Astros – Nafplion
The finishing line will be between the Light at Panagitsa cape to starboard and an inflatable cylindrical RED buoy with the Catamarans Cup logo to port

11.5 The finishing lines and their exact location are shown at the attached diagrams in Appendix A
11.6 The Race Committee reserves the right to finish the leg in any scoring gate.

12. PENALTY SYSTEM
For infringement of the priority rules the One-Turn Penalty will apply.

13. TIME LIMITS
The time limit for all races is 17:00.
The Race Committee reserves the right to change the time limit of a leg before or after the start.
This will be notified in time to all competitors.
Boats failing to finish within the time limit will be scored Did Not Finish without a hearing.

14. ENGINES
14.1 Engines should be switched off before four (4) minutes prior to the start.
14.2 Use of engine for propulsion is forbidden.

15. PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS
15.1 A boat intending to protest shall inform the other boat on VHF channel 71 at the first reasonable opportunity and shall inform the Race Committee of the boat being protested immediately after finishing.
15.2 Protest forms are available at the Race Committee boat.  Protests and requests for redress or reopening shall be delivered there within the appropriate time limit.
15.3 The protest time limit is 60 minutes after the protesting boat has finished.
15.4 Ratings will not be grounds for a protest or a request for redress by a boat.
15.5 Notices will be posted no later than 30 minutes after the protest time limit to inform competitors of hearings in which they are parties or named as witnesses. Hearings will be held in the Race Committee boat, beginning at the time noticed.

16. SCORING
16.1 Races will be scored using the Time on Time system. (Corrected time = Elapsed time x Rating)
16.2 One (1) leg is required to be completed to constitute the Event.
16.3 In cases where scoring gates will be set, each boat will receive up to 2 scores. The first score will result from the time the boat took to cover the distance from the start to the scoring gate and the second score will result from the time the boat took to cover the whole course.
16.4 The penalties for breaches that occurred before the boat crossed a scoring gate will apply to all scores not decided yet. The penalties for breaches that occurred after the boat crossed a scoring gate will not apply to decided scores.
16.5 When fewer than 4 legs have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her leg scores.
16.6 When 4 or more legs have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her leg scores excluding her worst score.
16.7 When scoring gates are not set, scoring is modified respectively.

17. SAFETY REGULATIONS
A boat that retires from a race shall notify the Race Committee as soon as possible on VHF channel 71 or on mobile phone 0030 6944393069.

18. ADVERTISING AND IDENTIFICATION
18.1 Boats shall display advertising supplied by the Organizing Authority following the instructions provided at the registration.
18.2 Boats will be identified by unique bow numbers on stickers which will be fixed on both sides.

19. TRASH DISPOSAL
Boats shall not dispose of trash in the water.

20. PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded to:
a. The 1st boat of each class A, B, C of each leg
b. The 1st boat of each class A, B, C in the final overall scoring of each class
c. The 1st, 2nd & 3rd boat in the final overall scoring

21. RIGHT TO USE NAME AND LIKENESS
In participating in the Catamarans Cup 2023 a competitor automatically grants the Organizing Authority and sponsors of the Event, the right in perpetuity, to make, use and show, from time to time and at their discretion, any motion pictures and live, taped or film television and other reproductions of him/her during the period of the competition in the Catamarans Cup 2023 and in all material related to the Catamarans Cup 2023 without compensation.

22. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the 13th Catamarans Cup International entirely at their own risk.
The responsibility for the Decision of a boat to participate in the Event or to continue to sail is exclusively hers. The Organizing Authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the Event.

23. ORGANISING COMMITTEE BOATS

The signal Race Committee boat at the starting line will display a «RC» yellow flag.
Rest Organising Committee boats will display white flags with the Catamarans Cup logo.

24. TRACKING SYSTEM

ISTION shall install in all participating boats a device broadcasting the boat's position via an electronic system which will operate during the entire regatta.
The position of each boat will be plotted on a map on the Internet available to all users.
